How to take a typing test
- Open the FingerWPM typing test and choose your language.
- Select Easy, Medium, or Hard difficulty.
- Choose a test duration from 15 seconds to 5 minutes.
- Start typing the displayed words. Your test begins with your first printable character.
- Watch your WPM and accuracy, then repeat the test to compare your consistency.
What your typing test results mean
WPM shows your typing speed in words per minute, while accuracy shows how precisely you typed the presented text. A useful practice session looks at both numbers together: speed matters, but speed with frequent errors is less useful than controlled, accurate typing.
Choose a test that matches your goal
Short tests are useful for a quick speed check. Longer tests are better for seeing whether you can maintain rhythm and concentration. FingerWPM also provides three difficulty levels, so you can begin with familiar words and move to more demanding practice as your control improves.
Typing tests in multiple languages
FingerWPM currently supports Indonesian, English, Arabic, French, Spanish, German, and Turkish. Practicing in the language you actually use can make the exercise more relevant to your daily typing.
How to improve your typing test score
- Keep your eyes on the text instead of repeatedly looking at the keyboard.
- Use a comfortable posture and relaxed hands.
- Correct errors without rushing into the next word.
- Practice in short, regular sessions instead of one long session occasionally.
- Compare your own progress over time rather than chasing a single high score.
